Public Joint Stock Company "Liepajas metalurgs" is a metallurgical company founded in 1882; it is the only enterprise of this profile in the three Baltic countries. The company traditionally used to supply rolled steel products and metal goods such as wire, nails and chains to the industrial and civil construction engineering and agricultural sectors. Since 1996 the basic product of the company has been reinforcing bars for export. The company also offers different metallurgical products made of low-carbon and low-alloyed steel.
Steel is produced from ferrous metal scrap and cutoffs mainly from local suppliers as well as scrap from ship-breaking operations.
The company’s basic production facilities include the Siemens-Martin Steel Melting Shop with annual capacity 500 thousand tons of steel and the Rolling Mill capable of producing 600 thousand tons of reinforcing bars in accordance with standard requirements of 14 different world countries. The company’s Quality System is certified according to ISO 9001:2000; nine European countries have issued certificates stating the conformance of the company’s reinforcing bars to their national standards.
